This Memorial Day event is to honor and pay respect to those who have made the ultimate sacrifice for our freedoms and the opportunities we all share in this great Nation.

Dakine on the Incline:

Who: Atomic Athlete - Alpine (Colorado Springs, CO); Trevor Murray

What: 24-Hour Event on the Infamous Manitou Springs Incline to raise awareness for veteran issues associated with PTS, TBI, Veteran Suicide, and the causes directly addressing and impacting our community.

When: Start: 0000, 25 May 2024 to 0000 26 May 2024 on the Manitou Springs Incline

Where: Manitou Springs Incline, Manitou Springs, CO 80829

Why: We are conducting this event to raise awareness and bring attention to the issues that have plagued our community for far too long. The stigma of veteran PTS/Operator Syndrome and affects on those that suffer from years of trauma have taken too much of a toll on our Nation's finest and most patriotic heroes. This month and every month forward we are dedicated to erasing the stigma of these traumas, having the tough conversations, and bringing our own back in to the fold and back to a tribe that will allow for conversation, community, and healing through hard work, camaraderie and doing the work. Nobody takes care of us better than our own. DOL.

What: NKFG Memorial Day Workout - Austin, Texas

When: 27 May 2024; 10:00AM-12:00PM

Where: Atomic Athlete HQ, Austin, Texas; 3907 Warehouse Row, Austin, TX 78704

Why: Atomic Athlete HQ will be conducting a Memorial Day workout in honor of SFC Nick Guard and his dedication, sacrifice, and duty to country in service with both the United States Marine Corps (Force Recon) and U.S. Army Special Forces. Nick was and is the epitome of a warrior; a giant of a man who had an immense impact and holds a deep level of respect and admiration from all who had the honor of serving alongside him. Nick lived for the hardest of challenges, the most difficult workouts and the most challenging endeavors in his military career. Nick led from the front in all that he did, and it is our turn to lead from the front in our effort to assist those that have given so much to this nation. All funds raised from this memorial workout at Atomic Athlete will be donated to the All Secure Foundation in their mission to help and heal our warfighters and their families.

When I think about what this event represents and where it comes from, there is no greater representation of who this arduous event will pay homage to than my brother and friend, Nicholas Kau’ilokoikaika Franklin Guard.

Nick was and is everything that I wanted to be as a Green Beret. He was the epitome of a warrior, a patriot, a brother, a friend, an amazing father and a steadfast husband. He was always happy and smiling, but especially happy and grinning from ear to ear when we were suffering. He loved “The Suck” as it’s where he thrived. He couldn’t get enough of it. I’ll never forget one day during SLC in the middle of the summer in North Carolina when he insisted we go do sled pushes and a nasty grinder workout in the only gym that had just lost its A/C and had turned in to an impromptu sauna. Nick, this effort is for you my brother.

Far too often I feel we neglect to honor our warriors that we have lost to their own internal battles back home, even after they have made it off the battlefield and back to us. But in reality they don’t completely make it back home. Nick lost his battle two summers ago after serving this country valiantly for many years as both a Force Recon Marine and a Green Beret. He was and is the best of us, yet Nick and those like him are many times neglected in the honoring and commemoration of this month and what it represents.

We say "no more". This one is for you and those like you, Brother. We are here to honor all of our warriors and patriots we have lost serving our great nation, especially those whose stories rarely get told. These families are left just as lost and broken as our Gold Stars, yet get left to deal with the aftermath of the loss with little to no support either because of the stigma or just shear unwillingness to recognize the systemic problem we have in our community. That stops for me this month and here forward.

I am honored and privileged to introduce you all to our honoree of the month, and the motivation behind this 24-hour event. "Dakine on the Incline" will pay homage to Nick's life and legacy, as well as honor his beautiful family, allow us to tell his story and tell the story of those like him.

We will continue to honor our warriors throughout the month, but I couldn't be more proud and honored to have Nick's wife bless off on this event and what it represents. Let's use this month to speak their names and honor their legacy, lest we forget. DOL.
