The Ramapo College Investigative Genetic Genealogy Center is working to assist the Camp 25 Sons of Union Veterans to identify a man whose remains were found near Unionville, Nevada in 1982. Based on his clothing and the age of the remains, it is believed that the man was a cavalry soldier in the 1860s. Our hope is that upon identification, the man can be provided with a proper burial with his name restored.

We seek to raise $9,400 to identify the Unionville Soldier; these funds would cover laboratory costs and database upload costs. The cost breakdown is as follows: $7,000 for bone extraction, whole genome sequencing and bioinformatics work to create a profile suitable for investigative genetic genealogy; $1,400 for upload to the FamilyTreeDNA database; $1,000 for upload to the GEDmatch Pro database.

The Ramapo College Foundation is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization. Donations to this cause are tax deductible as allowed by law. If the Unionville Soldier is unable to be identified utilizing funds raised due to difficulties in the laboratory process or other unforeseen circumstances, funds raised will be routed to benefit other unidentified remains cases.
