Ten years ago, 48 students joined forces with Immaculata’s physics and science teacher, Marika Foreman, to form the school’s FIRST® (For Inspiration and Recognition of Science and Technology) Robotics Team 1279, nicknamed “Cold Fusion.”

The mission of the Cold Fusion robotics team is to design, construct, and program an operational robot to the specifications set forth by the FIRST organization. The robot will execute certain tasks that will enable it to play the game in the FIRST competitions. These activities will provide an opportunity for students of diverse academic and technical capabilities to utilize their talents and work together as one team. This team will learn to overcome a range of challenges in order to produce one final product: a successful robot. To make this a reality, the team relies solely on publicity, donations, and fundraising to cover its expenses.
