This year's Lap-a-Thon takes place on May 24!

On May 19, 1923, the Summit Y was one of 9 YMCA associations to compete at the first ever YMCA National Championship at the Central Branch Y in Brooklyn, New York. A few weeks ago, coaches and swimmers alike had a blast celebrating this historic milestone in person at the 100th anniversary of the YMCA National Short Course Championships.

The lap-a-thon, which is normally held in October, has served as our program’s in-pool fundraiser season after season. This event is where our swimmers raise money by swimming lengths of the pool. This year in celebration of our team’s 100th anniversary, we are combining the lap-a-thon with our annual 5k challenge at BHCP.

Our “Centennial Celebration and Lap-A-Thon” is set for Wednesday May 24 (rain date May 25) during your swimmer’s normal practice time at BHCP! We are looking for 100% participation. PIZZA PARTY AFTER YOUR SWIM!!! Siblings are welcome to join. Swimmers will need a parent timer/counter just like last summer. Other spectators are welcome to watch. An event page has been created and we will need to know total number of attendees in the notes. More information on how to donate and prizes to follow next week!

15&Overs – 5K (5000 meters or 100 laps)
13-14s – 4K (80 laps)
11-12s – 2K (40 laps)
10&Unders – 1K (20 laps)

Swimmers can ask family, friends, neighbors, teachers, or businesses to pledge money per length, or make a flat donation in support of the SAY Swim Team.

Team Fundraising Goal of $25,000.

General Team Fundraising / End of Season Banquet Subsidy – 10%
Sunkissed Team - 15%
National Team - 25%
SAY Community Strong Campaign - 50% or a maximum of $15,000

If we hit our goal of $25k:

General Team Fundraising / End of Season Banquet Subsidy = $2,500
Sunkissed Team = $3,750
National Team = $6,250
SAY Community Strong Campaign = $12,500
