Team Let's Go Story

Why Are Our Young People Still Struggling?

Why are so many of our young people still facing challenges with literacy, self-esteem, leadership, and social development?

There are countless reasons — and like me, I’m sure you have your own thoughts. But here’s the truth: no one has all the answers. Especially when we’re talking about students in inner-city schools, Title I schools, or community-based programs. These schools are stretched far too thin, and our young people face countless barriers before and after they even step foot in a classroom.

Yet we keep saying, “They just need to do better.”
The reality is, they can — but only if we create opportunities for them to thrive.

As the founder of this organization, this mission is deeply personal to me. I was one of those young people. I struggled academically and didn’t learn how to read until 9th grade. Not because I wasn’t smart, but because no one — not my family, not my coaches, not even my community — ever asked how I was doing in school. It was as if my education didn’t matter.

So I know, firsthand, what it feels like to be overlooked. And while today’s young people may face different circumstances, the core issue remains the same — we’ve been fighting this battle for decades.

That’s why I’ve made it my mission to ensure that every young person — especially the ones who don’t get labeled “gifted,” who aren’t on reading level, who don’t fit the mold — has access to the support, experiences, and exposure they need to lead, grow, and believe in their future.

But I can’t do this alone.

Yes, my story is powerful, but this work requires much more than motivation. It takes consistency, dedication, and resources. That’s where you come in.

As someone in my network — whether you're a colleague, friend, or supporter — I’m asking you to give. Not a specific amount, just what you can, consistently. Because we both know: consistency creates change.

If you want to read better, you read every day.
If you want to get stronger, you work out consistently.
And if we want to change the trajectory for young people — we need consistent support.

Your monthly gift will help us provide mentorship, leadership training, academic support, and character development for youth who need it most.

Together, we can make sure they’re not overlooked — but instead, uplifted.

Thank you for being part of this mission.

Congrats Class of 2024
The celebration of resilience, determination, and academic excellence. This video is a tribute to the Class of 2024, a group of students who have truly changed the narrative.

We had the honor of guiding students who started their journey with GPAs ranging from 0.7 to 2.0. Today, we stand in awe as these young men stride across the stage, graduating with a cumulative GPA of 3.3 or better. Their hard work and perseverance have paid off, with each one of them being accepted into college.

Among these remarkable students, we had the privilege of serving a standout Middle Schooler. A rockstar both academically and emotionally, she has consistently demonstrated her commitment to excellence. She finished second overall in her class and has been awarded a full scholarship to a prestigious local private school.

This is the story of the Class of 2024. A story of transformation, of overcoming obstacles, and of achieving dreams. This is how you change the narrative. Thank you for being a part of their journey and their future.

Have you been following Jon?

Have you been following Jon's story?

If so, you know Jon started with us in the sixth grade, burdened with many labels. At one point, he was the second lowest-performing student in our program. The school recommended him due to a diagnosis of ADHD, a severe learning disability, and supposed behavior issues. Miraculously, none of these challenges were evident during his time with us. In just two years, Jon turned his academic performance around and graduated middle school as the Student of the Year. Later that year, he won Mentee of the Year for the state of Maryland.

Jon has visited 20 colleges across the country, traveled to 13 different states, completed over 150 community service hours, and interned with Tsessebe Technology LLC. He has been accepted into five colleges and will be attending Bowie State University to focus on information technology.
