The Gulf of Mexico Youth Climate Summit (GOMYCS) is a grassroots, youth-led initiative committed to building climate justice and environmental leadership across the Gulf South and the broader Gulf of Mexico region.

Founded in 2021, our work centers Gulf youth who live on the frontlines of ecological collapse, fossil fuel expansion, and climate vulnerability. Through our annual in-person summit, campaigns, and year-round organizing, we equip fellow young people with the tools, knowledge, and community support to take meaningful action for a just, regenerative future.

This movement is rooted in our region’s rich histories of resistance and resilience. It is shaped by Black, Indigenous, Latinx, immigrant, and working-class youth who are reclaiming power in the face of extractive industries and government inaction.

GOMYCS is directed by the Gulf of Mexico Youth Action Congress (GOMYAC), a group of youth ages 17-25 who are dedicated to empowering young people to lead climate action across the Gulf of Mexico. Congress members collaborate to shape equitable policies, programs, and campaigns that focus on education, advocacy, direct action, and policy initiatives. GOMYAC's collective efforts drive the summit’s mission and goals, ensuring that the voices of the Gulf’s youth are not only heard but also actively shaping the future of our region.

OUR EFFORTS ARE 100% GRASSROOTS:
We rely on the support of our community members to help create spaces for youth empowerment, organizing aid and training, leadership development, emergency support for youth organizers impacted by climate disasters, and activation. We believe that youth have the knowledge and power to lead and that true solutions are born from the people closest to the problem.
