The Little Black Dress Initiative (LBDI) is a social capital and social media fundraising campaign aimed to raise awareness around poverty in the Charlotte area. Participants, if possible, will be asked to wear the same black outfit every day for 5 consecutive days to spark conversation (in person and online) and increase awareness about the challenges facing our neighbors in Charlotte currently living at or below the poverty line.

All funds raised will go towards supporting the core mission of the Junior League of Charlotte, Inc. (JLC) and the community initiatives of current and past community partners.

Anyone and everyone can participate, AND you don't have to wear a black dress! LBDI is open to all, not just JLC members, and is an inclusive campaign that fosters individual and community advocacy. Participants can fundraise individually or in teams and invite their family, friends, and coworkers to join!

Although LBDI is a month-long campaign during the month of March in conjunction with Women’s History Month, the capstone fundraising week will be March 11 - 17, 2024. Please note that fundraising for LBDI can start before the campaign to maximize donations, events, and employer matching. Donations will be accepted through March 31, 2024.
