Hill Country Community Action Association, Inc. (HCCAA) has a rich history rooted in the spirit of community support and empowerment. Founded in response to President Lyndon B. Johnson's Economic Opportunity Act of 1964, HCCAA was established to combat poverty and promote self-sufficiency among individuals and families in Central Texas.

The journey began in July 1965 when an application was submitted to form a Community Action Agency for San Saba, Mills, Llano, and Mason Counties. This application was approved on April 21, 1966. Over the years, HCCAA expanded its reach to include additional counties such as Bell, Coryell, Hamilton, Lampasas, and Milam, and now serves a total of seventeen counties.

HCCAA's programs are designed to provide a "hand up, not a handout" approach, helping people help themselves. These programs include early childhood education through Head Start, senior services, energy assistance, housing assistance, and various community services. The agency's commitment to improving lives and communities has remained steadfast, guided by dedicated leaders and staff who have grown the organization from a small grant-funded initiative into what it is today.

Today, HCCAA continues to embody the spirit of hope and community action, making a significant impact on the lives of thousands of individuals and families in Central Texas.
