GM4MD’s Medical & Internally Displaced Persons Fundraiser July 2021 Update:
Thank you from the bottom of our hearts for your generous donations that made possible the purchase and transportation of medical supplies & essential items for internally displaced persons (IDPs) in areas targeted by the Myanmar military junta.
From late May to early July, we raised a total of $13,157. Of the total amount, $900 were collected through our recently launched fundraiser for IDPs fleeing their homes into the forests to stay alive. This new fundraiser helps to provide COVID-19 prevention supplies, food, waterproof shelters, water filters, blankets, and other essential items to those in dire need.
We also became a registered fundraiser of the CRPH Official Fundraiser Program (https://ofp.crphmyanmar.org/) on May 23rd, 2021! CRPH is the Committee Representing Pyidaungsu Hluttaw (Union of Parliament) formed by the winning party of the 2020 election in Myanmar. Please see one of the certificates of receipt by the Ministry of Women, Youth and Children Affairs below. We also sent general, trauma and/or maternal/children packages for IDPs and civilians to the following areas, which require urgent medical supplies.
Locations in need:
In Kayah/Karreni state, there are nearly 100 pregnant women in IDP groups and ten of them are in full term. A midwife from an Ethnic Health Department taking care of them reported she has a limited number of delivery kits. We were able to send maternal and child health packages, delivery kits with instruments for home delivery, and medicines.
Recently, $1500 of the fundraiser funds were sent towards Covid supplies, food, water filters, solar lights for IDPs in Kayah State. There are over 10,000 refugees from Mobye, Loikaw, Demawso, Pekhon, Kayan Tharyar, Pharuso and many villages around these cities.
COVID-19 is spiking in every corner of Myanmar with some testing positive for the DELTA variant. This is of great concern for us and we’d like to devote more funds to help mitigate more COVID deaths. Additionally, there have been reports of the military shooting people standing in line for oxygen. The people of Myanmar are facing unfathomable circumstances. We welcome donations in any amount to help purchase and transport the items listed below:

GM4MD Urgent Medical Fundraiser May 2021 Update:
Thank you very much for your generous donations! Since the start of the Myanmar Emergency Medical Supplies & Services fundraiser in late March, we have raised over 15,000 USD through the Givebutter platform and private donations. We will also dedicate a portion of the proceeds from our art auction fundraiser to the cause.
Donations from our fundraisers purchased the most needed medical supplies and their transportation costs to take them to areas near the Thai border, clinics in Yangon and Mandalay, and the much longer journey north to Kachin state. We are in constant communication with the medical response teams and physician networks who update us on the donation amounts and supplies received by each clinic. *A list of purchased supplies can be found in Annex 1 of this report.
In April, funds were donated to 7 clinics in Karen and Kachin states. These clinics serve internally displaced persons (IDPs) affected by the airstrikes that burned down their homes and villages. Many families with young children and the elderly are living under tarps and in ditches. Healthcare workers have had an increasingly difficult time sourcing medical supplies. Leveraging our existing networks, we found a safe route for supplies to enter Myanmar through the Thai border. Many entry points are controlled by ethnic armed organizations instead of military soldiers. Some supplies are transported through waterways, and once the military even shot the supply boats. Other areas your donations reached include a clinic in Myitkyina serving wounded patients and an emergency clinic in Mandalay. Donations have been further shared with the NUG, who are also helping to distribute medical aid.
In May, funds were sent to medical response teams in Mindat, where families are running from active military airstrikes and firing missiles. In addition to the threat of COVID-19, the month of May marks the beginning of the monsoon season, where strong winds, significant rainfall, and cyclones can be expected. Currently, the physician groups are preparing medical supply packages to address many different needs. Your donations will continue to go to areas with the most urgent needs.
There is a continued need for the following items:
· Mobile vehicles and static undercover clinics
· Portable ultrasound machines
· Operating tables
· Surgical & First Aid equipment for roadside treatment
· Portable X-ray machines
· Fetal dopplers
· Portable Oxygen concentrators and tanks
· Lab supplies and agents
· Funding for patient transport to larger towns with hospitals
· Petrol & more
Myanmar’s healthcare workers must continue providing essential medical care in the face of civil strife and a murderous adversary. As international allies of the Myanmar people, we urge you to stand in solidarity with our health professionals. Please keep up your support by raising funds for local and cross-border humanitarian aid, make noise about these urgent crises, and rally your local and state governments to do more to help Myanmar.

Dear friends of the International Community,
On behalf of the people of Myanmar, we, at the Global Movement for Myanmar Democracy, need your assistance to help fund medical supplies and services for people facing extreme violence from the Myanmar military regime. After staging a coup d’état on February 1st, 2021, there has been countrywide resistance through creative non-violent tactics. The military has responded to the protestors using live ammunition, rubber bullets, water cannons, and brutal force to incite fear and inflict mental, emotional, and physical harm against innocent civilians. This has led to the death of hundreds, arrests of thousands, and the beating, and torturing of those in support of the resistance. The degree of violence we see now is unprecedented. The military has been setting random houses on fire, shooting openly into homes and hospitals at night, and dragging people out of their homes to execute them. Everyone is living in terror, and we expect things to get worse.
The doctors on the ground are overwhelmed by the amount of trauma flooding the hospitals and clinics. Although the military junta prohibits all clinics and health providers from tending to gunshot wounds, health care providers continue to risk their lives to support the wounded. One doctor was shot dead last night for tending to a wounded protestor in her apartment. The military targets emergency ambulances to prevent civilians from receiving care, and private practices are forced to report the names of those they treat. Emergency ambulances are being prevented from going out at night, even to reach crises unrelated to CDM (heart attacks, pregnancy-related emergencies, vehicle crashes, etc.) Medical supplies are extremely limited, and increased shortages are expected as violence continues to escalate. The realities of the COVID-19 pandemic and the lack of monitoring, resources, and adherence to safety guidelines in addition to nationwide human rights violations, compound the concern of the public’s health with wider implications for the rest of the world.
All of the funding will go directly towards medical services and supplies for wounded individuals throughout Myanmar. We will use trustworthy channels to allocate the funds and ensure intended individuals receive them. We will provide updates to donors on how the money has helped healthcare providers to do their work and stay safe. Their intervention has saved countless lives, but they need help to keep going.
