We're thrilled to extend an invitation to you to participate in the inaugural Juneteenth Celebration in San Marcos, CA scheduled for Thursday, June 19th 2025. Lionel and I, alongside our small team of passionate individuals, are presenting the event as Couples Unfiltered, the Podcast. Our goal is to offer a fresh perspective on this important celebration by focusing on the Black Excellence found in San Diego and North County.

Background story; In June 2022, my husband Lionel and I threw an impromptu Juneteenth celebration in our driveway, sparked by the bewilderment we were hearing from the community over "this new holiday." With a theme of education and inclusion, we invited our city’s Mayor to witness the event. Despite it being Father’s Day, she came and stayed for hours, much to our surprise. Fast forward to June 2024, when Lionel received the proclamation for Juneteenth in San Marcos, CA—a moment that ignited our deeper sense of responsibility. Now, we’re determined to not only celebrate but to ensure this pivotal day in American history is a meaningful reflection for our entire community.

Event Description: Our event will lead with educating the community, showcase vendors, talent and businesses across a variety of industries, from Chefs, Restaurants and artists to those in Apparel, Beauty & Makeup, Books & Publishing, Design & Manufacturing, Education & Training, Entertainment & Film, and non-profits supporting local youth.

Benefits to the community: We humbly acknowledge that this is our first time organizing an event of this scale and we are relying on sponsorships to bring it to life. However, we are deeply committed to creating an annual event that is both educational and inclusive, addressing a significant need in North County San Diego. The program will directly benefit the community by providing a venue and necessary support for events that foster community engagement, education, and cultural enrichment.

Use of Funds: The intended use of the funds would be to support the lease of the venue space and logistical assistance from Cal State University San Marcos. This is to include the plazas, outdoor auditorium and patios, event signage, electrical setup and equipment, safety and security by local police, security and medical, laborers to assist with the event set-up and break down, parking and trash. It will also provide the financial assistance required to reserve speakers and performers for this event. In addition to supporting the event, the funds will also provide assistance for our partnership with Achievementinmotion.org

Marketing: We are committed to maximizing exposure for our inaugural event through a comprehensive marketing campaign. Our promotional efforts will include dedicated media, onsite signage/recognition, press releases sent to San Diego and North County news stations, local newspapers, and magazines. Additionally, we will collaborate with content creators, internet personalities, and various social media platforms to extend our reach. With these efforts in place, we anticipate attracting thousands of attendees and creating an unforgettable experience.
