Bicycle Day is celebrated annually on April 19th to commemorate that day in 1943 when Swiss chemist Albert Hofmann became the first human to intentionally ingest LSD. Dr Hofmann tried what he believed to be a safe, miniscule dose of LSD (250 micrograms). When the LSD began to take effect, Dr. Hofmann left his laboratory and rode his bicycle home followed by his female lab assistant, Susi Ramstein. He told her that during the ride he thought he was hardly moving and Ms. Ramstein assured him she had pedaled furiously to keep up with him. Once home he endured the first LSD trip worrying that he had poisoned himself with his creation until the effects began to eventually wear off. The next morning he felt refreshed and strangely renewed and thus was the beginning of the tale of LSD.......

The holiday was first named and declared in 1985 by Thomas Roberts, a psychology professor at Northern Illinois University,^[6]^[7] but has likely been celebrated by psychedelic enthusiasts since the beginning of the psychedelic era, and celebrated in popular culture since at least 2004.

We, at The Pearl Institute, would love to see Bicycle Day become a day where across the globe, people are not only celebrating psychedelic medicine but also raising funds to help bridge the economic barriers for those in need of assistance to access psychedelic - assisted therapy.

In the spirit of kicking of this global spark, we are challenging our Pearl community to help us raise $4,190 that would be put aside for assisting those individuals who come to the Pearl and are facing these economic barriers. This would be a spark that we hope will grow over the years as if 419 individuals gave $10 a piece, we would meet our goal. This money would help up to 5 individuals to receive assistance in financially accessing ketamine assisted therapy. Please join us and help us to meet or better yet, exceed our goal.

The Pearl Institute has been created to treat trauma through cutting edge alternative therapies and advance the study and understanding of psychedelic medicines through research, treatment, training and community education. Institute activities will be conducted safely, ethically and with the deepest respect for the medicines and the people involved in this work. The long-term goal as these medicines become legalized is to establish a reduced cost clinic in Western North Carolina where these emerging treatments can be accessible to those in need.
