Story

We have exciting news – a teacher and her family have generously offered a #GivingTuesday match!

That means YOUR donation from now until the end of tomorrow Tuesday, November 29th will have DOUBLE the impact. Together we can turn $5,000 into $10,000 to check off every single item on the KGSA Girls' Wishlist AND fund field trips next academic year!

For example:

  • Donate $50 and it becomes $100 🙌
  • Donate $125 and it becomes $250 ❤️
  • Donate $500 and it becomes $1,000 🎉

Your support will equip KGSA with the resources they need to educate, inspire and empower 130 girls in 2023. Watch the video to see the girls' and teachers' wish list.

Thank you for your ongoing support of this important work. It truly takes a village to make a difference and we're honored that you're a part of ours! Please share this giving opportunity with your friends and family - many people are looking for good causes to support on #GivingTuesday.

P.S. Want to mail in a check or contribute from your charitable giving account or employer giving program? Choose the “Mail a Check” box, so your donation can be included in the match challenge!

About KGSA:
44% of girls in Kenya don't finish high school.

The Kibera Girls Soccer Academy (KGSA) provides a free, holistic secondary school education to 130 girls annually in Kibera, Nairobi – the largest informal settlement in Africa.

KGSA’s model cares for the whole girl - academics, extra-curricular activities, nutrition, healthcare, mentorship programs, college scholarships and a new dormitory that opened in July of 2021. KGSA unlocks potential, expands opportunities, and enables each girl with the ability to shape her future. Research shows that girls who earn a secondary education earn twice as much and women with  higher education earn up to three times as much as their peers with no education.

KGSA was founded originally as a soccer club for girls in 2002 by Kiberan resident Abdul Kassim who recognized the unique challenges that girls faced in his community. Over the years KGSA has grown from a soccer club to a one room classroom with 13 girls to a multi-faceted school. To date KGSA has graduated over 370 girls including 70 who have pursued higher education. Our vision is to harness the power of the #girleffect to create a stronger, more resilient Kibera.
