Introduction

Years in the making;

StayAlert/ KIXP, is an Orcas Island based non profit created by local couple; Allen Hartle a 40 year radio veteran & Liberté Pedicini a proven community builder.

We have received FCC approval for Orcas Island's first radio station: 102.3 KIXP FM.

We've spent the last year building studios in downtown Eastsound.

KIXP FM is dedicated to celebrating and connecting local residents through music, news, and engaging local programming. Based in Eastsound, our station is are part of a vibrant, non-profit organization that thrives on the contributions of volunteers and the support of local businesses and charitable organizations. With a huge local music archive and a unique "StayAlert" public safety notification system, KIXP FM and is more than just a radio station, it is a media platform for islanders to share their voices, tell their stories, and stay connected.

StayAlert is a public safety project, that uses the power of FM radio to deliver text Alerts to public places, homes, phones and car radio dashboard displays.

Public Safety First

In the event of local emergencies, we are offering direct access to our on air signals to Orcas Fire & Rescue, the Sheriff & San Juan County Emergency preparedness.

Local Support Underway

Local Music Legend Bruce Harvie has donated Thousands of local musical recordings from around the islands.

"Angels" have appeared and have begun to assist us! Seattle Radio Legend Bruce Murdock & his wife not only donated this epic broadcast console, they drove from Seattle to deliver it to our studio! Amazing!

Volunteers are Queueing up to begin broadcasting and assist in a rich variety of ways. Our volunteer leader Brad Brown is looking for on-air hosts, music library curation, and a variety of other volunteer opportunities.

This Summer we are broadcasting live from the Farmer's market and concerts on the green.

What we're working on next:

Our initial FM signal is concentrated on Eastsound, in the near future, the FCC will announce the opportunity to extend KIXP FM to Olga, Deer Harbor, Doe Bay & the Ferry landing.

Spanish language programming dedicated to our Hispanic population is in production now.

Rick Hughes will be broadcasting from our "Eye in the Sky" studio high atop Buck Mountain. Reporting news, weather and of course watching our Eastsound traffic. Rick also personally sponsored the "Grateful Dead Hour" for KIXP, Thank you.
