Honoring 40 Years of Legacy and Preservation

Founded by the esteemed preservationist and civil rights leader W.W. Law, the King-Tisdell Cottage Foundation has been at the forefront of safeguarding Savannah’s rich African American heritage. As the parent organization of the King-Tisdell Cottage and The Beach Institute, the Foundation continues to champion cultural preservation and education.

The Beach Institute, Savannah’s first school built after Emancipation for African Americans, now serves as a vibrant cultural center dedicated to collecting, interpreting, and celebrating African American history through exhibits, artistic showcases, and educational programs. The King-Tisdell Cottage, the birthplace of Savannah’s African American preservation movement, offers a compelling narrative of Black life from slavery to freedom, highlighting the contributions of working-class families and the vision of W.W. Law.

Now celebrating 40 years of impact, this milestone event honors the enduring legacy of the Beach Institute with a two-day celebration featuring unique, upscale experiences that spotlight the Gullah Geechee culture, local artistry, and the soulful rhythms of jazz.
