We are a group of local artists, makers and professionals alike working to create a makerspace for the Flathead Valley. Through collaborative engagement and a grassroots approach we aim to create a space that is reflective of its community.

It all started in October of 2023 when an initial public interest survey was sent our to the community. (See results of that survey here) With the survey's findings a group of local artists and makers started meeting to organize a plan of approach. How do we make this dream of a makerspace, with demand evidenced in our survey, a reality?

In 2024 we met our initial goal of outreach and visibility. This past Spring, Summer and Fall we organized several satellite workshops, classes and events in addition to promoting several workshops, classes and events from other local creatives! We also filed for and successfully got our official 501(c)(3) nonprofit status. (Check out our year end report here.)

Moving forward into 2025 we are fundraising to hire 2-3 paid staff members. With the ability to pay 2-3 people, The Making Place could make major headway in its administrative planning in addition to continued progress and refinement in our programming.
