We don’t just study birds—we empower local conservationists, engage communities, and fiercely protect the unique and threatened species that make the Caribbean a global biodiversity hotspot.

For 37 years, BirdsCaribbean has been weaving a strong, region-wide safety net for Caribbean birds and the North American migrants that depend on our islands for survival. This net is built through long-term monitoring to track bird populations; hands-on training that builds conservation skills; community outreach that inspires people of all ages; and research and conservation grants that turn data into tangible action.

This coordinated weave of monitoring, capacity building, knowledge sharing, community education, and conservation action is what makes our work effective in the face of habitat loss, pollution, climate change, and illegal wildlife trade. But in early 2025, abrupt federal funding cuts—the core support for many of our programs—threatened to unravel the network we and our partners have spent decades building. Your generosity during Global Big Day kept us from losing critical ground, and we are profoundly grateful.

Despite one of our toughest years yet, we persevered—maintaining our core capacity building and educational outreach programs, launching urgent interventions for at-risk species, and mobilizing emergency resources in the face of one of the most severe natural disasters our region has ever experienced.

Built regional capacity through our Caribbean Landbird Monitoring and Bird Banding Workshops.
Intervened for at-risk species by supporting Conservation Action Plan Workshops for the Grenada Dove (Critically Endangered), Whistling Warbler (Endangered), and St. Vincent Amazon (Vulnerable).
Inspired thousands to know and love their endemic birds through the Caribbean Endemic Bird Festival.
Reached major scientific milestones in our Caribbean Waterbird Census and first-ever Caribbean Seabird Census.
Delivered emergency support for birds and communities impacted by Hurricane Melissa.
