Impact Fundraiser For Turkey and Syria Earthquakes

WHAT HAPPENED IN TURKEY?

Powerful earthquakes have ravaged southern Turkey and northern Syria, killing tens of thousands.

Homes have been destroyed or left unsafe, and people will have little choice but to sleep in the open, fearing more aftershocks. Around 23 million people could be affected across the two countries.

To make matters worse, temperatures can drop below freezing at this time of year, putting lives at risk.

In northwest Syria, many buildings were already damaged by years of civil war, where some of the worst damage has been reported.

Syria is at breaking point, with 3 million people already displaced by the war. Families face harsh living conditions, freezing temperatures, and diseases like cholera. They have faced the destruction of war, only to be hit again by these events.

HOW IS SHELTERBOX HELPING?

ShelterBox teams are on the ground in Gaziantep, a large city in southern Turkey, where ShelterBox has pre-existing humanitarian partners and suppliers. We are working around the clock to mobilize aid that has been pre-positioned in strategic hubs around the world into the affected regions of both Syria and Turkey.

We anticipate will be a long and complex emergency shelter response.

WHAT WE KNOW SO FAR

ShelterBox is responding in both Turkey and Syria with emergency shelter and aid items.
We are coordinating with our local Rotary partners on how to meet urgent shelter and household needs.
Tents are in high demand. ShelterBox tents and other aid will be distributed to disaster-affected people to protect from the winter weather, prevent the spread of disease, and provide privacy.
ShelterBox will provide thousands of blankets and expect items like solar lights and mattresses to be needed.
ShelterBox is distributing warm children's clothing in northern Syria.
