Kids in Motion: Empowering students to make healthy, active transportation choices while addressing economic disparities.

Kids in Motion (KIM) fixes bokes for Billings Public Schools students for FREE! They offer education for students on how to be safer when walking and biking and helps get kids excited to ride their bikes!

HOW IT WORKS

4-6 schools, primarily elementary schools and the occasional middle school, are selected each semester for a KIM visit. On KIM day, kids bring their bikes to school and drop them off with program representatives in the morning before school. Qualified bike mechanics volunteer their time or work for a stipend repairing bikes while kids are in school during the day and kids pick up their repaired and safe bicycles after school is out. Health enhancement teachers teach a safe riding and walking curriculum in class before the KIM events at their school.

According to the American Community Survey from the US Census Bureau, almost 7% of households in Billings do not have access to a car.

WIth the exception of safety busing, only students who live 3 miles or more from the school receive busing. Kids need options to get to school safely and active transportation can help!

KIM has served more than 1,700 students since 2015!

Kids in Motion is a partnership between Billings Public Schools, the City of Billings and the Education Foundation for Billings Public Schools. Donations are made to the program through the Education Foundation, a 501c3. EIN: 81-0452904.
