Voices of Kingman: The Story Continues

There was a time when the halls of Kingman Museum were filled with quiet wonder. A child standing eye to eye with a polar bear. A family lingering over a display case, pointing, asking questions, discovering something new together. Those moments did not disappear when the building closed. They stayed with the people who experienced them.

Today, those stories are guiding us forward.

Voices of Kingman began as an idea. Not just to display artifacts, but to bring the museum’s history to life through the voices of the people who built it, visited it, and carried it forward. As we’ve started this work, something remarkable has happened. The community has begun to speak back.

Former staff, volunteers, and visitors are sharing their memories. Stories of school field trips, first encounters with science, and the quiet inspiration that shaped careers and lives. These voices are becoming part of the exhibit itself, woven alongside the objects that have been carefully preserved for decades.

While we are not yet back in our permanent home, Kingman Museum is not standing still. With the generosity of partners and supporters, we are preparing to bring Voices of Kingman into the community. These exhibits will appear in shared spaces across Battle Creek, offering a chance to reconnect, reflect, and rediscover what Kingman has meant and what it can become again.

This is more than an exhibit. It is the beginning of our return.
