CBS is currently blessed to serve first-generation college students navigating higher education without family precedent and those from economically underserved communities. Athletics is one of the few viable routes to an educational opportunity. The sequential pathway that CBS moves students from potential to purpose. We have found that this model distinguishes CBS from a transactional athletic program and positions our institution as a holistic discipleship community.

The CBS Transformation Pathway

Athletics > Education > Discipleship > Leadership > Community Impact

Many of our CBS students do not have robust family support, so CBS is not merely an institution, but a family/ Our coaches, faculty, and staff serve not only as educators and mentors, but also as a committed community, fulfilling three essential pastoral roles beyond the basketball court and classroom:

Pointing students toward Christ and an eternal sense of calling (Philippians 3:14)
Protecting their focus, unity, and conduct worthy of the Gospel (Philippians 1:27)
Providing consistent encouragement toward love and faithful action (Hebrews 10:24)

At CBS, we measure success by Kingdom outcomes, not merely athlete performance. We define success by the following four integrated markers,

Academic achievement and degree completion
Measurable spiritual formation and discipleship growth
Development of servant leaders equipped for vocational calling
Tangible, lasting impact in urban communities across Houston, Indianapolis, and beyond
