About LADN

Most people trust their body to regulate their heart rate, digestion, temperature and other automatic functions. But with autonomic nervous system disorders (dysautonomia), the body’s control system goes haywire, leaving patients constantly struggling. The Los Angeles Dysautonomia Network (LADN) is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization dedicated to providing mental health, community, education, and financial support for individuals with dysautonomia in the LA and greater CA area.

LADN's Programs:

LADN’s Mental Health Support Program helps people cope with the burden of illness and includes support groups for adult and teen patients and for caregivers. Patients describe LADN as their “sanctuary” and “safe space” with “collective wisdom” and “consistency.”

A chronic, invisible illness like dysautonomia can cause extreme social isolation. Many of our community members are too ill to work or attend school and a number are homebound. LADN’s Community Program includes LADN Links peer network, which pairs small groups of dysautonomia patients to encourage friendships, SickLit Book Club, which reads books written by or about people with illnesses, and other community-building events such as movie nights and holiday gatherings.

LADN’s Education Program empowers patients through webinars and workshops with experts in fields relevant to the dysautonomia experience. This may include experts in dysautonomia research, nutrition, physical therapy, psychology, disability law, or even personal finance. On average it takes patients with the most common type of dysautonomia – POTS – 5 years to receive a diagnosis. This is unacceptable given that there is an easy at-home test for POTS. LADN’s awareness campaigns aim to create a world where no one has to face the difficult mysteries of this illness alone and without answers.

LADN’s Healthcare Access Program provides direct financial assistance for low-income patients to afford dysautonomia-related medical care. 55% of LADN survey respondents reported being unable to work due to dysautonomia (2025). The average annual income for the 2024 recipients was $16,000. The average amount they had spent on dysautonomia healthcare in the 12 months prior was $10,000. Maya, a Healthcare Access Grant awardee, said “To be disabled in America is a constant battle against poverty, appropriate healthcare, and accessibility. LADN understands these hardships, and I’m immensely grateful for their work to alleviate the financial burden so many of us face.”

LADN's History

LADN grew out of personal need and developed to champion a community. Founded by four women with dysautonomia, LADN launched as a support group in early 2018, expanded in 2020 under the current name, and became a nonprofit in February of 2023. LADN has grown into a supportive community of over 650 people impacted by dysautonomia across LA county and the greater California area.

LADN is led by co-founders Executive Director Sally Krueger-Wyman and Outreach Director Emily Suñez, who each have lived experience with dysautonomia. Their efforts are joined by psychologist Dr. Samantha Levy, facilitator of the teen and caregiver support groups, and occupational therapist Lian Norris, instructor of the Mindful Movement class.
