This film follows Alina, a determined young woman who embarks on a journey filled with unexpected trials and setbacks as she navigates the complex and often unforgiving process of helping her Abuela obtain citizenship in the USA. Tender, raw, and quietly relentless, La Bolsa is a story of love, loss, and the invisible threads that tie us to home.

Please note that this is a fictional story aimed at raising awareness about the immigration process in the USA.

La Bolsa is an 8 page short film written by one of the co-founders of Dreamy Mango Studios, a WOC, Chicago-based studio aimed at amplifying underrepresented voices through diverse storytelling. Your financial contribution will help make this project a reality and kickstart the careers of many young creatives as well as raise awareness of the ongoing challenges of the immigration process.

La Bolsa will be funded by a combination of larger donor contributions and crowdfunding —which will be necessary to cover the below production costs:

The Dreamy Mango Studios team started in September 2024 as an idea that since has led to the production of 3 short films including white mourning, The Sad Clown, and Murder Munchies. A collective love of film brought the team together who have since been meeting weekly regarding film production of multiple projects, music production (white mourning is also an original song composed by Michael Max Wolfe), and partnership with other local studios in Chicago on joint productions.
