With the help of supporters like you, Open Arms provides compassionate, culturally responsive perinatal care to our community. Parents like Markia are met where they are and supported no matter what. An experienced mother of two older children already, Markia faced unexpected lactation challenges with her third child. She found help at Open Arms’ Lactation Lounge.

“With the help of my lactation counselor,” Markia shares, “I was able to get [my child] to pass his birth weight into a healthy weight. It just filled me with so much passion that she was able to help me, and then I knew: I have to do this. I have to help others and do this as well.”

Now Markia supports countless other birthing people at Open Arms as a lactation peer counselor. Because of incredible lactation counselors like her, over 90% of Open Arms clients are chestfeeding their babies at six months compared to Washington State’s general population’s 51% average.

Like Markia, many Open Arms clients are inspired to carry forward the care they receive to other birthing parents and create a ripple effect in their communities. As a donor, you inspire change and sustain Open Arms’ life-changing programs to support generations to come.
