Lulu (formerly known as Darwin) really needs the help of his community at this time.

Lulu was placed on the medical euthanasia list rapidly for facial muscle wasting, severe dental disease and suspected entropion. Despite pleading to numerous rescues and BEGGING the shelter to allow us to take him for a Good Samaritan to get a better idea of what his care would look like, we were denied.

But the community didn't give up on Lulu and on his very last day, an independent rescuer in partnership with Melita's Dream Rescue and Death Row Dogs Rescue helped pull Lulu, arranged for initial medical care visits, and gave him a temporary home to save him from dying alone in the shelter.

What's happened since then has been a whirlwind. Our foundation and a kind volunteer have been paying for Lulu’s medical bills upfront to see what his care would entail. Luckily the eye issues are chronic and do not need intervention and the vet did not see any obvious facial muscle wasting. Unbeknownst to us, though he requires severe dental work, he has a different medical disease involving portosystemic shunting and intestinal enteropathy. Luckily, both can be medically managed with medications, a specialized diet and routine vet checks/bloodwork

In addition, we are hoping to get the dental work for Darwin once it is safe so he can live out the rest of his life comfortably.

Darwin initially had a very loving home in Canada awaiting for him, but with his health, we do not think it is wise for Darwin to make the trek... At this time, Darwin has a temp foster, but he is in search of a longterm foster or a forever home somewhat locally to live out the rest of his life and manage his care. His foster has information about how he is around other kids, people, dogs and cats. He seems friendly and sweet to all.

We have attached his prior invoices here (Initial diagnostics and abdominal ultrasound) and added a small estimate of what we anticipate his future care will require (anesthesia and dental work, bile acid test, medications, repeat CBC/CMP/protein levels). If for whatever reason we have funds leftover, the rest of the funds will go to his hospice foster or adopter to help supplement his medications longterm.
