What is The Modern Green Book?

The Modern Green Book is a re-imagination of the Negro Motorist Green Book, a historical travel guide created during the Jim Crow Era to help Black motorists travel with ease, safety, and comfort. The original Green Book was in publication from 1936 to 1966 and featured businesses in the United States, Canada, Mexico, and the Caribbean. In 2020, our founder, Theo Edwards-Butler, decided to bring this legacy back to life with a modern twist! The Modern Green Book (TheMGB) was created to assist consumers with locating and supporting Black Owned Businesses, Creatives, and Black-Led Organizations from the comfort of their homes or on their travels, but it is now so much more.

It's more than a Database, it's a Legacy ✊🏽

For the past three years, we have been curating a community that SUPPORTS, UPLIFTS, & CELEBRATES Black Brands. We do this by amplifying their stories through our quarterly publications, social media platforms, and videos. This makes Black brands accessible to eager consumers through our Complete Travel & Shopping Guide and online database, offering affordable digital marketing services to brands to help them build their digital legacies. And lastly, through our 501c3 foundation, we provide educational & developmental opportunities, curated experiences for IRL sales and networking, and now financial assistance through our Road to Success Small Black Business Grant!

Why Should You Help Build The Legacy?

There are over 2,000,000 Black owned businesses in the United States, and they often go without comparable access to capital, resources, opportunities, and respect that their majority owned counterparts receive. We aim to change that. By bringing Black Businesses to the forefront, we can showcase their excellence & innovation and bring awareness to their impact on our communities and the economy. Our goal is to build a legacy that lasts and shows a vibrant history of Black Entrepreneurship that generations from now will look back on with pride.

What is the Ask?

We need to raise $25,000.00 throughout the 2024 year to help us officially launch the "Road to Success Black Business Grant," a grant designed to help small and budding Black businesses thrive in the ever-evolving and competitive market. Your donation will also go toward supporting our programming, both educational and developmental, to help support entrepreneurs on their journeys, connecting them to industry experts, networking with the entrepreneurial community, and providing them with opportunity to grow their customer base.
