Treatment Action Group (TAG) is an independent, activist, and community-based research and policy think tank committed to racial, gender, and LGBTQ+ equity; social justice; and liberation, fighting to end HIV, tuberculosis (TB), and hepatitis C virus (HCV).

We are science-based activists working to expand and accelerate vital research and effective community engagement with research and policy institutions for an end to the HIV, TB, and HCV pandemics.

Tuberculosis (TB) is an infectious disease that most often affects the lungs and is caused by a type of bacteria. It spreads through the air when infected people cough, sneeze, or spit.

About a quarter of the global population is estimated to have been infected with TB bacteria.

About 5–10% of people infected with TB will eventually get symptoms and develop TB disease.

In 2023, an estimated 10.8 million people fell ill with TB worldwide.

1.25 million people died from TB in 2023.

TB is the leading killer of people with HIV.
