Protect Muslim Students on Campus!

Amid the ongoing genocide in Palestine, MSA West has had rapid support calls with over 15 Muslim student organizations that have been organizing and seeing first-hand what's happening. On these calls, we're hearing of dozens of anti-Muslim hate incidents that have not been addressed or reported.

In response to the numerous challenges our students are currently facing, there is a need to expand operational capacity to establish and provide student support services and tailored crisis-related resources to students on the ground.

Enough is enough. It is time we protect our students. As a Muslim organization specializing in developing and resourcing young leaders and organizers, we have seen and heard the extreme need of Muslim students on the ground.

In times of crisis, Muslim students have proven time and time again to be at the frontlines representing and protecting our community. But when the crisis ends, we cannot forget about our students. We must support them day in and day out.

Our 3P Strategy:

Protecting students through trainings that gives them the knowledge and tools for better physical & digital security, media training, and organizing strategy.
Providing individualized consultations and rapid support calls for Muslim student organizations across the West Coast for emergency response.
Partnering with local MSAs and national organizations like CAIR to streamline student incident reporting that can be used to protect and support students

The Challenge

We are requesting your help to raise $30,000 in funding. Our students are in desperate need of community protection and support. We urgently request the support of our community to help us fundraise money to help protect and resource our students. This funding will help MSA West provide materials to students organizing on their campuses, fund speakers and events, scrub their digital footprint to protect them from doxxing, and build capacity for our organization to continue providing emergency support.

The Realities Our Students Face

Our students are confronting a range of difficult challenges in their daily lives such as:

Hate Crimes and Discrimination: Muslim students are vulnerable to hate crimes and discrimination, which pose real threats to their safety.
Doxxing/Black Lists: Some students are at risk of being doxed or placed on blacklists, making them vulnerable to online harassment and potential harm.
Emotional Distress: The ongoing international conflict and national tensions have led to high levels of stress, anxiety, and depression among our students.
Fear and Uncertainty: Students are worried about potential doxing, attacks, and consequences related to protests. They often lack guidance on proper protest procedures and legal rights.
Advocacy for Palestinian Rights: Our students are advocating for their right to protest and support Palestine, a cause they hold dear.
Campus Struggles: These students often find themselves in contentious situations on campus, with varying degrees of support for Israel, making their advocacy for Palestine a challenging endeavor.
Poor Mental Health: The distressing news from Gaza and the conflict in the region can leave students feeling powerless in the face of these issues, leading to frustration and a sense of anger.
Fear of Speaking Out: Potential consequences such as job loss, suspensions, or being targeted prevent students from speaking out and engaging in advocacy.
Safety Concerns: Some students are concerned about physical harm, especially those who visibly identify as Muslim or publicly support Palestine.
