I was diagnosed with MS in December of 2023. I was at sea on my ship and talking to the medical person because I couldn't feel my left foot, they said let them know if it got worse. After three weeks the numbness went from my foot to all the way to my hip. The ship pulled in to San Diego and the captain asked me to get off and go back to Everett, WA and get it looked at. I didn’t know what it was so I went to the hospital thinking I had a pinched nerve somewhere. Goodness was I wrong! Nine MRIs and a spinal tap later they said you have MS. I said cool what’s that... how long does it take to fix. How cavalier of me. Well there isn’t a cure said the neurologist. Always the problem solver I said to my wife we’re going to run the La Jolla half marathon. We did it five months later. After that race we did a marathon and then I did an ultramarathon. Along the way I discovered MS RUN THE US. I said that looks like an awesome organization with a great mission. I put my name in the ring to be on the relay team and I was lucky enough to be selected. Here I am now the person who gets to kick off the relay! I'll be running 27.3 miles every day for 6 days, which is a total of 164 miles. I am starting on March 23, 2026, in Santa Monica, California. My segment goes to Barstow, CA.
I have a lofty goal of raising $10,000 any help getting there is greatly appreciated. Words of encouragement and positive vibes are also welcome if you can't donate.
The funds will support research studies that impact those living with MS. They will also go toward financial aid requests to improve the mobility and livelihood of those living with MS.
