Join the Williamson County League of Women Voters on Saturday, August 24, 2024, as we celebrate our American right and privilege to vote!

We’ll be marching in anticipation of Women’s Equality Day on August 26, a national holiday marking the passage of the 19th Amendment of the U.S. Constitution granting women the right to vote. Voting is the powerful tool that ensures that EVERY citizen’s voice is heard and that each person is making decisions on better communities and nation. Voter advocacy is the number one goal of the League of Women Voters nationally and locally, and it has been LWV’s goal since the organization began right after suffrage was won over a century ago.

We will meet at 9:30 am at the home of Jessie Daniel Ames, a suffragist who led the Williamson County women’s suffrage campaign and a racial justice activist who started a regional anti-lynching organization. From Jessie’s home at 1004 Church Street, we will march a few blocks to the County Courthouse. We’ll re-trace a few of the steps taken by the 3,800-some WilCo women who rushed to register to vote at the Courthouse in the victory to win state suffrage in 1918.

Join us on a short HERstory walk around the Square that marks spots where Jessie advocated for voting and justice. (Route is wheelchair and stroller accessible.) The WilCo LWV will also be offering voter registration and nonpartisan voter information from 8 am to 4 pm at the Square.

Celebrate vote power with us! Feel free to wear the suffrage colors of white, purple, and yellow. We’ll have VOTES FOR WOMEN! sashes available to wear, as well as lemonade and cookies to enjoy as you hear how you can exercise your vote power and advocate with us for widespread voter participation.
