Sleeping rough, which refers to the practice of sleeping in public spaces, is a particularly visible form of homelessness. In the United States, the annual Point-in-Time Count in 2022 found that there were approximately 580,000 people experiencing homelessness on a given night, of which 106,000 were sleeping rough.
This year, on December 6th, Metro Relief will host its first Big Sleep Out. What we will experience in one night is just a glimpse into the daily reality of far too many people.
