Mind the Movement is the first and only initiative to support mental health care for campaign staff, grassroots organizations and fired federal workers.

The idea for Mind the Movement began the day after the 2024 election when a young staffer was experiencing a mental health crisis. Since then Mind the Movement has published a report on campaign worker's mental health and expanded the reach of the program to include our colleagues who unexpectedly lost their jobs in the federal government and grassroots organizers who are often underpaid and sometimes uninsured.

And if we want people behind the scenes garnering votes, protecting our communities or providing international aid - they need to be well enough to show up, do their jobs and stay in this work for the long-haul.

There's so much that needs to be done across each of these sectors to improve working conditions, reduce burnout and keep the most talented staff. But mental health is a good first step.

Our pilot program launched in November of 2025. Over the next year we will:

-subsidize therapy for up to 300 out of work campaign staff, fired federal workers and underemployed/uninsured community organizers.

-provide crisis mental health training for 50 organizational leaders

- partner with mental health organizations to provide trauma informed peer support trainings for 40 democracy workers.

--host weekly virtual support groups for workers, led by a trained peer facilitator and supervised by a licensed mental health practitioner.

- provide emergency mental health support to organizations who are facing unprecedented attacks and trauma

-test membership models in organizations that want to provide mental health care directly to their staff.

-produce a case study of the impact of having mental health support versus not on campaign workers output, retention and growth.

Mind the Movement is a project of Collective Legacy, a nonprofit organization that has applied for 501(c)(3) status.
