Be here Saturday, Dec. 27, for a mini CBC

All the day’s activities, including guided bird walks, are FREE with admission.

The nation’s longest-running community science bird project, the Audubon Christmas Bird Count is a global census of birds across the Western Hemisphere. While a team of highly experienced birders is identifying and counting the many species in our wetland for the official CBC, master birders will help you conduct a mini off-the-record count of your own.

In this fun day, you’ll:

Find out what the CBC is, all about its history, how it works and why it’s so essential to the well-being of birds.
Learn basic birding and bird-counting techniques (how does the CBC team count those huge flocks?).
Gain tips for using binoculars. If you have binos, please bring them. We have a limited number to lend out.
Count birds and use an app to enter data about the birds you observe. Bring your smartphone!
Choose from guided bird walks throughout the day.
Make your own natural birdfeeder. Hot chocolate provided!

Event schedule:

Guided bird walks at 9 a.m., 11 a.m. and 1 p.m.
Natural birdfeeder craft at 2 p.m.
Come and go from 7 a.m.-4 p.m.

About the JBS-TRAC CBC partnership:

This marks our 16th year of partnering with Trinity River Audubon Center in southeastern Dallas in a bird count that has been held across the nation since 1900. Last year, 116 species were observed in our count circle on a dark and stormy day. Learn more about the Audubon CBC.
