Juliet Fluty's Story

BlueHorizons Global Initiative empowers youth with knowledge about ocean health and conservation. Partnering with Educational Passages, we launched Mini Maine in 2012, sailing over 35,600 km before stopping reporting in the Sargasso Sea. Recovered in 2019 in Ireland, Mini Maine inspires renewed interest in ocean conservation. Building on Sea Synergy's success in Kerry, Ireland, we adapt its model for Maine, engaging students in STEM through Mini Maine's journey. Students partner with Biddeford Intermediate School to explore ocean currents, nautical knowledge, marine debris, and climate change, fostering hands-on environmental education. Our initiative connects students in Biddeford with peers in Ireland, promoting ocean conservation and global stewardship. Maine students prepare a new sail, while Irish students enhance the boat's capabilities, including climate data collection. To strengthen the bond, I will travel to Ireland over UNE's Spring Break, facilitating direct class interactions. By sponsoring our initiative, you support education and a sustainable future, with recognition throughout the project. Your support will enable Educational Passages and me to connect two classrooms across the globe and restore the Mini-Maine to its full glory! Every contribution matters, and we are grateful for your ongoing support and generosity. Thank you for being a part of our journey towards a brighter, more sustainable future!
