The Matthew Karlaftis Family Foundation (click to learn more) was founded by George Karlaftis as a tribute to his father, Matthew Karlaftis, whose remarkable life was defined by achievement, service, and an unwavering commitment to helping others succeed.

A native of Athens, Greece, Matthew excelled as both a scholar and athlete. He competed in football and track and field at the University of Miami before building a distinguished career as a professor of Civil Engineering and internationally recognized transportation expert. His contributions culminated in a pivotal role overseeing transportation planning for the 2004 Olympic Games in Athens, helping the world gather in his hometown for one of the most celebrated international sporting events.

Inspired by Matthew's legacy and guided by the family's proud Greek heritage, the Foundation embodies the values that have long defined the Karlaftis family: hospitality, strong family bonds, hard work, and a passion for giving back. These principles are woven into every aspect of the Foundation's mission to create opportunities for children and strengthen communities.

Today, The Matthew Karlaftis Family Foundation works to improve the lives, health, and well-being of children through education, training, advocacy, resources, and transformative opportunities that help every child thrive.
