Story
THE MORGAN CENTER
Studies have shown that 90 percent of brain development happens during a child’s first five years.1 Moreover, the lack of early childhood socialization and education opportunities can cause long-term behavioral and cognitive difficulties.
The Morgan Center (TMC) is a 501(c)(3) non-profit charitable organization dedicated to providing preschool-age children who are undergoing treatment for cancer the opportunity to interact and socialize, in a safe environment that stimulates cognitive and social development. Children on chemotherapy treatment have a suppressed immune system, and could otherwise risk infection and serious illness by attending typical age-appropriate preschool programs.
THE MORGAN CENTER is provided FREE with NO-COST to the children and their families. Operations are entirely supported by private donations and fundraising. Founded in 2003 by the parents of a young cancer patient named Morgan, THE MORGAN CENTER is the first program of its kind in the United States. Morgan, now 22 years old, graduated from Marist College, Magna Cum Laude, in May of 2020 with a double-degree in Psychology and Special Education. While in college, Morgan was a 4-year scholarship athlete and a member of the 2019 NCAA Division I MAAC Conference Championship, Marist Women's Rowing Team. She is currently pursuing her Master’s Degree in Educational Psychology at Marist College and is cured of cancer.
In September of 2015, in honor of National Childhood Cancer Awareness month, Morgan created MORGAN'S MILE - GO the EXTRA MILE 4 Kids with CANCER. Morgan challenged people to walk, run, bike, swim, row... whatever... just get up and GO the EXTRA MILE 4 Kids with Cancer. An immediate success, local people posted videos and pictures to raise awareness and made donations to TMC.
In 2019, with the support of leaders in the Orlando pediatric cancer community, TMC opened its first program outside of NY in Central Florida. TMC has plans to expand the program to additional markets in need across the United States.
After 17 successful years, COVID-19 and the restraints associated has severely impacted fundraising for THE MORGAN CENTER and is putting the entire program in jeopardy. MORGAN's MILE has gone virtual to raise more donations and increase awareness of our important mission.
Please help us continue to make a difference in the lives of young children battling cancer.
You can create a team, join a team, organize your co-workers, or participate as an individual and challenge your friends, family, or co-workers. Prizes will be awarded for participation levels, including, TMC wrist bands and T-Shirts. TMC Medals will be awarded to top individuals and top teams!
