Howdy! I’m Alaina Smith, and I’m beyond excited to participate in the Mrs. Rooftop Rodeo for Estes Park Health Foundation’s Crowns for the Care. My husband Greg and I first set foot here in 2005 on vacation—and we fell head over boots in love with these mountain views, crisp air, friendly folks, and each other! Fast‑forward to today – I’ve traded in my corporate high heels for cowboy and hiking boots, and Greg and I are proud to call this charming town our retirement home.
There isn’t one person who doesn’t know someone impacted by cancer. For me, it’s my mother who was diagnosed with a carcinoid tumor. She underwent surgery and clinical trials, but 15 years later, the cancer returned, and we lost her far too soon at just 68 years old. That’s made the mission of Crowns for the Care to support diagnosis, treatment, and care for cancer patients in the Estes Valley deeply personal. I’m proud to stand behind this cause and honored to be part of something that will make a difference to our community.
Before retiring, I enjoyed a rewarding career in information technology, finishing the last 18 years at Chevron. Greg and I also spent over 10 years volunteering with the Houston Livestock Show & Rodeo, so Rooftop Rodeo seemed like the perfect match for us in our new community. I also volunteer giving back to the university that helped shape my journey with several roles at LSU.
When I’m not hiking or enjoying the great outdoors of the Rocky Mountains, I enjoy sports, reading, listening to podcasts, traveling and cheering on the LSU Tigers or the University of Maine Black Bears! I’ve enjoyed meeting new people and soaking up the atmosphere and relaxing pace of Estes Park, and I’m excited to participate in Mrs. Rooftop Rodeo to help raise funds that will stay here in our community to help those impacted by cancer. Thank you for your support, and I look forward to seeing you at the rodeo!
