PARTNERING WITH WOMEN AND KIDS LIVING IN EXTREME POVERTY

For many years now, NIVAS has been helping women living in vulnerable situations to take back their story and make it their own. Our efforts combined with countless local volunteers and team members, have brought an end to homelessness for nearly 500 kids and moms. 👏

On average, the families we work with are living on around $50/month for a family of 2 to 7. They are staying outdoors or in very precarious conditions. Yet, once they join NIVAS, these families put every ounce of energy and then some into building the life of their dreams.

Our program starts by partnering with a single mother as she navigates through procuring land and finding the materials and volunteer labor that she can contribute. From there it's on to construction training and into building her home together. This is where the program expands outward to benefit the greater community. Youth and young adults join our job-sites as on-the-job trainees, learning valuable skills and getting paid a great wage as they train and work. Once the home is complete and our single mom and her kids are safely sheltered, we begin helping her develop a viable and context-relevant home business.

All along the way, the women in our program find their voice and establish a stronger place in their community. By the end everyone can see the true person inside: a woman, a mother, a thinker, a doer, a homeowner.
