Vermont Public Theater's Story

Vermont Public Theater has just launched with our recent tour through Vermont of Truman Capote's classic- A Christmas Memory starring renowned actor Dan Butler as a Fundraiser for Vermont Flood Relief.  We were even more thrilled to partner with Vermont Community Foundation, Vermont Public,Vermont Arts Exchange, Little City Cider and the Savoy Theater in the process!! We believe in creating great theater that is free for all, and in partnering with leaders in our community while we do it!

Here is a link to the recent press about this initiative: https://www.timesargus.com/fea...

We invite you to join us in helping us launch more programming like this in the New Year by supporting our CSA- Community Supported Art/ Seed Funding Campaign. We truly appreciate any level of support you might consider- no amount is too small and participation is everything. Another simple way to help is to share this link.

VPT creates theater in many forms, for many spaces.  We hope you will join our efforts as we introduce ourselves with our first season of offerings in the new year.

Verité- VPT's new Audio Podcast Series featuring original work by some of the top theater artists working today. Available after the new year for free on podcast platforms everywhere.

A Christmas Memory- by Truman Capote. We were thrilled to have been given permission by the Truman Capote Literary Trust to present this holiday classic performed by well known favorite- actor Dan Butler and directed by Dina Janis which just completed a tour  around the state as a fundraiser for Vermont Flood Relief.

Artists Writing Circle will convene its first in-person writing retreat this winter.  AWC is a writer-driven collective of 16 artists who offer ongoing support to each other as they write original content for theater, fiction, film, and beyond.

Vermont Public Theater believes that a theater should serve as a “round table” for community; inviting audiences from diverse walks of life, across cultures, ages, gender identifications and economic backgrounds to participate, engage, and inspire exuberant theatrical storytelling that lifts up our shared humanity.

As a growing collective of theater artists and community members from the Vermont region and beyond, we are inspired by the idea that theater can exist in different forms and different spaces; both traditional and innovative.

We are not interested in being a brick and mortar organization, but instead desire to be creatively itinerant; a moveable feast if you will.

We imagine performances that are developed in collaboration with top professional theaters and arts partners in the region, but just as easily we envision developing work that could be presented in libraries, pubs, coffee shops, homeless shelters, hospitals, and outdoor venues.

We believe art should be participatory.  We challenge the idea that an "audience" is a passive group of viewers or listeners.

We welcome participation and public discourse, and we strive to make work that will inspire both.

Last but not least, we believe that art should be free and offered at no charge to its audience.
