Will you help us shine a light, so everyone can see a rainbow?

It’s our mission to build community and provide education and resources to the LGBTQ+ community in the region. Over the past year, NoVA Prism Center has vastly increased the scope of its services to the local LGBTQ+ community. We’ve opened our Gender-affirming closet, doubled the size of our library collection, and we’ve hosted or attended at least one community event every week (on average). We've opened our new facilities in McLean, renovated and decorated our space with the help of our incredible volunteers, and celebrated our grand re-opening with members of the LGBTQIA+ community. Throughout June and beyond, we're inviting you to show your allyship as we raise funds to ensure that NoVA Prism Center will continue to care for our growing community for years to come.

The NoVA Prism Center team believes that "ally" is both a verb and a noun, so we actively welcome individuals — like you — who can help us in all facets of our mission. NoVA Prism Center exists to serve LGBTQ individuals and their families in the northern Virginia area by providing a variety of activities, services and events. That’s still a pretty broad definition, so here are some specific examples:

We maintain a physical space that allows us to hold activities and house resources,

We have a virtual, protected space online that allows for interaction and sharing from home,

We host activities, from practical (workshops teaching sustainable life skills), to cultural (monthly co-working sessions for writers), to social (a regular gaming night),

We have created a free lending library, because books specific to our experiences are validating and supportive. We share our books out and about in the form of library pop-ups, too,

We have a community pantry, fridge, and window garden, because we anticipate even greater food insecurity for our community in the current political zeitgeist,

We maintain a gender affirming closet of donated items, and a chest binder exchange for folx to better reflect their gender,

We make and share connections to resources in our community: healthcare providers, spiritual leaders, businesses, legal consultants, etc.,

Our work is much larger than our online presence might indicate, so not all of these examples are readily visible. We take careful steps to secure not only our space, but also the privacy of our community members.

However, we can’t do this alone. To keep this space open and accessible to all, we need your help. This Pride Month, celebrate the strength of the LGBTQ+ community coming together to support each other. Your donation directly funds a queer-led organization. Your gift, no matter how large or small, has a large impact. Contributions will directly help us with continuing to serve the community through programs and maintaining our physical space. More than ever now, the community needs a safe space for queer persons to feel safe to be themselves, and to build community with other folks.
