What is happening?

We’re launching a brand-new holiday tradition in New Providence! Join us as we invite every household to light up their front streets with festive luminaries — creating a magical display of unity, warmth, and community spirit across town.

How it works: $30 for a set of 10

Each Luminary Kit ($30) includes everything you need to light up your curb with festive charm — 10 white paper bags, 10 candles, and 6 pounds of sand.

To assemble, simply fill each bag with a bit of sand for weight (we recommend half a pound or 1 inch of sand at the bottom), place a candle in the center, and line the luminaries along your curb or walkway. Then on December 5th at 6pm, put them out and light them to create a warm holiday glow for all to enjoy!

How many kits should I buy?

We recommend placing each luminary about 3-5 feet apart. Measure the length of your front property and plan for one luminary every 3-5 feet — then choose the number of kits that best fits your space and the glow you want to create!

When do I pickup my kit?

Pickups will be November 30th. We will email details on location and time.

Why on December 5th?

The annual "Night of 1000 Stars" has become a cherished New Providence tradition, uniting the community while supporting important causes. During the celebration, there is a Community Tree Lighting in Centennial Park.

What if it rains?

If the New Providence Tree Lighting is postponed due to weather, we’ll send an email with updated details and the new plan so everyone can light up together!

What is the different between the December 5th and December 23rd Luminary events?

NPEF’s Light Up New Providence on December 5th is our own fundraiser supporting classroom grants and programs across New Providence schools.

If you’re looking for another way to give back this holiday season, NPEF is also supporting Our House’s Annual Luminary Fundraiser on December 23rd by helping spread the word. Our House is a local nonprofit supporting adults with disabilities in our local communities, and their event proceeds go directly toward their programs and services.

Join the 13th Annual Light the Way for Our House campaign and brighten your neighborhood on Christmas Eve or New Year’s Eve. Each set includes 10 fully assembled luminaries delivered to your home by December 23rd, with proceeds benefiting NP-based non-profit Our House, Inc. (www.ourhousenj.org)

New Providence Education Foundation creates successful partnerships between the New Providence, NJ, public school community and the community at large, including residents, alumni, and businesses, to provide for and enhance the educational experiences of our students.

The members of NPEF and their supporters raise and distribute monies for the schools each and every year. These grants are teacher-initiated, help supplement existing programs, and provide for new and innovative efforts, many of which would not otherwise be funded.
