Trauma is currently the greatest public health issue in the world. Gun violence is the leading cause of death, surpassing cancer, for children in the United States. Most trauma is left untreated, especially in BIPOC communities. The cost to society annually for child maltreatment ranges from $80 billion - $124 billion, based on conservative estimations of the combined cost of medical/mental health services, lost productivity, and crime. Developmental trauma is the root cause of much of the illness, violence, and incarceration in the United States.

Neuro-Somatic Integration: A Resilience Process (NSI) is one solution for many. We are focused on the communities that suffer the most and are least likely to get help. We have carefully designed our curriculum to consist of nine modules of in-person instruction and eight virtual modules. This program explores and integrates an understanding of trans-generational trauma and its underlying effects on the brain and the body. This NSI program is healing justice with the potential for significant positive social impact.

Our charter cohort is scheduled to commence on January 15th, 2024, providing a unique opportunity for individuals to embark on this transformative training together. Each module is crafted to integrate the fundamental principles of the neurobiology of trauma, emphasizing its relevance and practical application in the context of Structural Integration and appropriate touch. Throughout the training, students will develop a deep understanding of how trauma is stored in the body. In a safe, supportive environment, we facilitate the exploration of brain-body practices and techniques, enabling students to cultivate a profound awareness of themselves and their clients.

This training includes 750 hours of instruction, in addition to the facilitation of contact with mentors. Students will complete 100 hours of service in their respective communities. Upon graduation from this program, students will be qualified to take the NCBTMB certification exam and be fully prepared to open a successful practice in their community. Overall, our training program offers an immersive and comprehensive learning experience that combines the latest research in the neurobiology of trauma and structural integration. The primary instructors have 30-50 years of experience in this field, and each is recognized as having contributed to the growth of the profession.

Our intention is to increase the presence of black and brown Neuro-Somatic Integration practitioners and to bring this valuable healing work to their communities. Building successful BIPOC-owned and operated businesses is the key to bringing this work to the communities we intend to reach. The program takes place in Barbados, New York, and San Diego. We have applicants from Barbados, New York, San Diego, and Trinidad.

The budget for the project, including transportation, lodging, food, staff, and classroom space is approximately $360,000.00 for the two-year engagement with twelve students.
