U.S. Steel Eaglet Needs a Name!

Hatched on April 7, 2024, this little eaglet has two attentive parents (Claire and Irvin), a nest with a gorgeous view next to the Monongahela River, all the fish it can eat, and a global online nest cam following. The only thing it's missing is a name, and you can help give it one!

U.S. Steel needs your help to name this eaglet! The minimum donation to vote is $5, and the name that raises the most money will be the winner! Those who vote will receive a squishy eagle from U.S. Steel!

Tamarack Wildlife Center

U.S. Steel chose Tamarack Wildlife Center, in Saegertown PA, to benefit from all donations raised during this contest. The mission of Tamarack Wildlife Center (TWC) is to rehabilitate injured, sick, and orphaned wildlife in order to return them to the wild and to provide education for all ages promoting appreciation and understanding of wildlife.

In 2022, a U.S. Steel fledgling, Rosie, was transported to Tamarack Wildlife Center for care after falling from the nest site and damaging her flight and tail feathers. Rosie was in treatment for 3 months before her successful release in October. You can read more about Rosie's story here.

TWC has been continuously serving western Pennsylvania since 1989. Tamarack specializes in the treatment of birds of prey, but also treats adult songbirds, squirrels, opossums, rabbits, turtles, snakes, and amphibians. In 2022, TWC admitted 1,101 patients and anticipates at least that many again this year. TWC is recognized for its exemplary treatment of eagles and typically admits 15 Bald Eagles each year. Support for TWC obtained during this contest will go towards providing quality professional care to all patients admitted in 2024.

U.S. Steel Nest Cam

The United States Steel Corporation offers viewers a unique glimpse into the life of Bald Eagles living near their facilities through live nest cameras. You can catch a glimpse of this year's eaglet and its parents in their nest, located at the Mon Valley Works-Irvin Plant in West Mifflin, PA, on live nest cam 1.

The featured nest was first constructed by Bald Eagle pair Claire and Irvin in 2019 in a large sycamore tree. Cameras were placed to monitor the nest in 2021. These live video feeds have been granted a Special Permit by the Pennsylvania Game Commission for educational purposes. We hope you enjoy following these eagles!
