A Path to Healing: One Breath at a Time

People in substance abuse recovery homes and jails are among the least likely to access healing resources, yet are the most in need. Trauma-informed yoga has been proven to reduce PTSD, anxiety, depression, and relapse. The Sattva Project brings these practices directly into Hamilton County jails and recovery homes, offering people the tools to breathe, regulate, and rebuild their lives.

We bring trauma-informed yoga into the spaces most people have forgotten—jails, detention centers, court-mandated recovery programs, and marginalized communities—offering practices that foster healing, harmony, community and personal transformation.

Our teachers don’t stand apart from the communities we serve—we come from them. Many of us are in recovery. Some of us have been incarcerated or love someone who is. We know the ache of trauma and disconnection. But we also know the way back: breath by breath, body by body, moment by moment. As Carl Jung said: “Know all the theories, master all the techniques, but as you touch a human soul, be just another human soul.”

The Science Is Clear—And the Stories Are Real

Yoga has been proven to:

Reduce symptoms of PTSD, anxiety, depression, and addiction relapse
Build emotional resilience, nervous system regulation, and self-awareness
Foster agency, community, and self-connection

When someone who’s been discarded by society is given space to feel, to breathe, to belong—the world becomes a possibility, not just a problem.

In jail cells, reentry programs, and recovery homes across Hamilton County, we see it happen every day. People begin to listen to their bodies. They soften. They share. They remember who they are.

$25 provides a full month of trauma-informed yoga for a resident in recovery—four chances to release stress, build resilience, and reconnect with themselves.
$50 allows us to train and support a teacher in trauma-informed practices, so every student is met with compassion and care.
$500 funds an entire 6-week healing journey for men and women at Hamilton County Jail, bringing consistency, community, and a pathway forward.
$1,000 allows us to partner with artists and like-minded organizations, enriching our programs and weaving more voices of healing, connection, and belonging into this work.
