Welcome to the fundraising campaign for our non-profit capoeira school! We are excited to share our mission with you and invite you to support us in our efforts to promote this unique Brazilian martial art and cultural practice.

Our school, Capoeira Malês, is dedicated to providing quality capoeira instruction to individuals of all ages and backgrounds. Our goal is to create a safe, inclusive space where students can develop their skills and connect with a supportive community.

But we can't do it alone. As a non-profit organization, we rely on the generosity of donors like you to help us cover the costs of rent, equipment, and other essential expenses.

By donating to our campaign, you'll be supporting a worthy cause that benefits not only our students, but also the broader community. Your contribution will help us:

Provide scholarships to students who cannot afford tuition
Host community events and performances that showcase capoeira and Brazilian culture
Purchase new equipment and upgrade our training space
Cover the costs of instructor training and certification

Your donation, no matter how small, will make a difference. Here are some suggested donation amounts and what your contribution could help us achieve:

$25: Pays for musical instrument maintenance (berimbau instrument repair, pandeiro and atabaque maintenance)
$50: Helps cover a month of tuition for one child
$100: Helps us rent a space for a community event or performance
$250: Covers the cost of a new set of capoeira uniforms for our students
$500: Helps us bring in a guest instructor for specialized workshops and training

Background on Capoeira Malês

For the past 23 years, Capoeira Malês has committed to serve racially and culturally diverse communities. Mestre Curisco, the founder and executive director of Capoeira Malês is an Afro-Brazilian immigrant who has dedicated his life to supporting and building healthy communities. The diverse members of Capoeira Malês and its supporters have resulted in an authentic connection with African American communities, Hispanic communities, and Immigrant communities in Seattle and the broader King County area. Capoeira Malês has provided a safe and nurturing space for those community members regardless of their practice of Capoeira.

Capoeira Malês currently serves 70% of students from different BIPOC communities in King County, 52% of students identify as Hispanic, and 55% of students are native speakers of different languages other than English (Spanish, Russian, Armenian, Portuguese, French, Japanese). In addition, 82% of the leadership team/committee members identify as BIPOC, 59% are bilingual/bicultural, and 60% were born outside of the US to represent diverse perspectives. Your support has a direct impact the adults and children of King County involved with Capoeira Malês.
