On May 8, 2026, I will be going Over the Edge for ALICE® (Asset Limited, Income Constrained, Employed) with United Way of the Lower Eastern Shore and I am doing it for a reason much deeper than the rappel.
I truly believe I was placed where I am for a reason. Serving others is not just something I do, it is part of my calling. I believe in being a missionary in everyday life, and this is one way I can live that out boldly.
ALICE® hits home for me.
As a single mother, I have seen the struggles firsthand. I know what it feels like to work hard, do everything right, and still face difficult choices. I understand the weight of living paycheck to paycheck and the stress that comes when one unexpected expense can shift everything. Many families across the Lower Eastern Shore struggle every day just to cover basic needs, putting food on the table, paying for safe childcare, and keeping a roof over their heads. Even small emergencies can create major setbacks. That is why raising awareness and resources is so critical.
Believe it or not, so many people in our community have never even heard of ALICE®. Yet more than 2 in 5 households are experiencing these challenges.
That is why I am going Over the Edge.
I am doing it to bring awareness.
I am doing it to stand for ALICE families.
I am doing it to show my daughter what bravery looks like.
Fear will always be present when we step into something bigger than ourselves. But I want her to see that fear does not get the final say.
We do not run from the edge. We lean into purpose.
By modeling courage, I hope to inspire others to learn about ALICE®, support our local community, and take action in whatever way they can.
United is the Way, and together we can help ALICE families move from barely surviving to thriving. I hope you will join me in supporting this mission and helping bring hope to families in our community.
