OWN THE STORY is People 4 People Productions’ evidence-to-action initiative that equips young people with the tools to analyze, challenge, and transform the narratives shaping their lives and communities.

Why Narrative Is Evidence—and Action

Our approach reflects the principles of Evidence for Action: Innovative Research to Advance Racial Equity by recognizing that:

Structural racism is embedded in dominant narratives
Stories influence systems, social norms, and policy decisions
Community-generated evidence is essential for meaningful change

Through film media literacy, storytelling, theater, drone cinematography, spatial computing, and emerging creative technologies, youth examine how narratives are constructed, how misinformation spreads, and how racialized stories impact mental health, civic participation, and community well-being.

Their stories are not just creative expression—they are data, insight, and evidence.

Youth as Knowledge Producers

OWN THE STORY treats young people as knowledge producers and change agents, not passive recipients of information.

Youth:

Investigate how narratives reinforce or disrupt structural inequities
Generate qualitative evidence rooted in lived experience
Translate insight into public storytelling, dialogue, and civic engagement
Build the skills to protect truth, amplify community voice, and strengthen democracy
