why: our lease was unexpectedly ended

to summarize, eleanor’s will be leaving its baldwin ave location at the end of march. while the circumstances are sudden, we collectively feel that this change is a push towards us putting into action some of our future goals sooner rather than later!

this project started as a want for a queer feminist space to learn, to build, and to share & discuss stories and knowledge and ideas. the next phase of the project brings that same desire and energy plus…

what the new space will hold:

eleanor’s collective*
a queer anarcha-feminist bookstore pop-up
-> all the free programming like book talks, salons, study groups, book clubs, writing & art workshops, teach-ins, and film screenings (oh my!), we’ve hosted for the past 3 years (and more, tbh)
-> queer as hell human-made curated book lists and other bookish love

a physical space for intentional social movement building
-> mutual aid workspace for our friends at hrrjl, hbb & tsbf, cooperation nfk, 757cf, and hr^2
-> the newly opened community library & free school

and while we know we can make it work, we gotta be honest…covering the operating costs of a radical community space with the income of an emerging worker-owned bookstore is a challenge. so we’re asking our community to help us cover some of the operating costs of the new space.

while we’re figuring out fully what this change really means, we value transparency and will be letting you all know more details as soon as we do! thank you for your support & care <3

while we will be hosting a variety of fundraisers in the upcoming weeks we really appreciate being able to put most of our energy into logistics and any amounts given will allow us to do that!

*that being said, this is our only fundraising page and we will not be in your dm's about it

what the funds are for:

one year’s rent ($22,200)
one year's interwebs ($1800)
the physical move: including truck and all moving materials ($300)
making sure our staff is paid during the closure ($4,080)

y’all have had some questions and we’re gonna answer those below but first - we have to take a moment because we are blown away by the outpouring of love & support. when people ask how we can continue to organize and operate in liberatory ways, the answer we give is YOU; this beautiful, generative, decidedly hope-filled community.

with this next step we’re sharpening our focus on what matters most: books, community, and queer anarcha-feminist organizing.
