"John and I co-own Doomsday Defense Dojo here in Easton, and a big part of what we are building goes beyond traditional martial arts training. Our goal is to create a space where people of all ages and abilities can build confidence, discipline, and resilience through martial arts and self-defense in an environment that feels supportive and adaptable.

Our connection to the autism community is also deeply personal. John is autistic himself, and his second youngest daughter is autistic as well. Additionally, my younger brother is autistic and nonverbal. Those lived experiences have shaped how we approach teaching and how we think about creating spaces where people feel understood, respected, and able to grow at their own pace. Because of this, John is especially thoughtful about how he works with students who may process information, communication, or sensory input differently. We aim to make the dojo flexible and welcoming, whether that means smaller group sizes, one-on-one instruction, lighting adjustments, or simply creating a patient, encouraging learning environment. We’ve seen how powerful martial arts can be in building confidence, focus, body awareness, and emotional regulation, and we’re always looking for ways to make these opportunities more accessible to more families."
