The Pilipino Association for Health Careers started through a group of students who recognized the need for a support system among Cal pre-health students. PAHC aims to promote current health issues in and around the Pilipino community, as well as extended communities. We develop a structure of dedicated students to integrate their knowledge, experience, and skills to seek information on various health issues and careers. PAHC provides information and services to aid the Pilipino community especially and, in addition, to all who are health conscious both academically and individually.

This year, the PAHC Benefit Concert (PBC), previously known as the Medical Mission Benefit Concert, will aim to provide funds to local communities to help support programs and initiatives that promote advocacy, well-being, and community care.

The theme of the 26th PAHC Benefit Concert is “ang lakas ng kabataan” which is interpreted as “the strength of the youth.” We want to emphasize that the health of our communities and diaspora are contingent on showing up and out for each other as we have seen during the COVID-19 pandemic and still see today here and in the Philippines that our government has neglected us in terms of providing proper systems for healthcare and especially abroad, proper infrastructure. We as the youth have shown time and time again that we have the power to change injustices in the world and that healthcare disparities, racism in the medical field, lack of universal healthcare, abandoning kasamas abroad in terms of humanitarian aid—it is all connected to why we are here as a community concerned for Filipino health issues.

NATIONAL ALLIANCE FOR FILIPINO CONCERNS (NAFCON)

NAFCON is a national multi-issue alliance of Filipino organizations, institutions, and individuals that responds to the concerns of Filipinos in the US and in the Philippines by creating a platform that brings people together through culture & heritage, education, health & wellness, and advocacy.

Objectives for Campaign

Promote the vision of a free, comprehensive, and progressive health care in the US and PH
Enjoin the community to participate community discussions to deepen our understanding of current conditions in order to contribute moral and political support for communities in the US and PH
Advance projects that support Community-Based Health programming in the US that services Filipinos and broaden the partnerships and collaboration
Address the socio-economic and political factors affecting health and livelihood through advocacy in the US and PH

LEAD FILIPINO CENTER

LEAD is a nonprofit organization that creates an ecosystem to increase FilAm civic participation, grassroots leadership, and community action. L.E.A.D Filipino stands for leadership, education, activism, and open dialogue.

Programs: Annual Fly Pinays, Queer Lakbay Summit, Liboration Book Club, Policy, Politics, & Puto, Awareness in Action

Initiatives: FilAm Cancer Study, Delano Manongs Park, Stop AAPI Hate, FIERCE Coaltion, Lola Scholarship Fund

PALESTINIAN RED CRESCENT SOCIETY

The Palestine Red Crescent Society (PRCS) is an officially recognized independent Palestinian National Society. It enjoys legal personality and is part of the International Red Cross and Red Crescent Movement. The Society, which operates in Palestine and the diaspora, is guided by the Geneva Conventions and the Movement’s Fundamental Principles, i.e. Humanity, Impartiality, Neutrality, Independence, Voluntary Service, Unity and Universality.

The National Society’s mission is to provide humanitarian assistance as well as health and social services to Palestinians whenever and wherever needed. It works towards preventing and allaying human suffering, protecting life and health, ensuring the respect of human dignity, preventing disease, and promoting health, social care and volunteering both in times of peace and war as well as during emergencies, crises and disasters.

Mission: To disseminate the International Movement’s fundamental principles, build the resilience of Palestinians through the provision of health and social services in the oPt and the diaspora, contribute to achieving Palestinian development goals, and reduce suffering caused by natural and occupation-induced disasters, regional crises and conflicts.

LIFE MATTERS INTERNATIONAL

Each year, the Life Matters International (LMI) goes on a medical mission to the Philippines. The mission will provide emergent medical services to specific locations or communities in the Philippines. This year, they will be going to Culion, Palawan and nine students from PAHC will be joining them. Funds raised will be going towards assisting costs of the mission.
