The Holiday Season is here, and 2024 is coming to a close. I always start my official donation "season" after Thanksgiving with Giving Tuesday and often find myself making donations on New Year's Eve. This year I'm fundraising for one of my favorite causes, Peachtree Creek Greenway Inc, a group dedicated to advocacy for the Peachtree Creek Greenway, slated to be a multi-modal, true transit alternative for all kinds of users on foot or wheels, two legs or four, just for fun, or to get to work or school. The "model mile," already built in Brookhaven, is fabulous and runs along the North Fork Peachtree Creek -- a creek many of us didn't even know existed while it had been previously buried under miles of kudzu, trash, and invasive species.
I started volunteering with Peachtree Creek Greenway Inc (the PCGI) in 2023 and joined the Board in 2024 to help advocate for getting the Peachtree Creek Greenway built, which will ultimately connect neighborhoods into the Atlanta Beltline and Path400 as well as trail systems to the north.
It's an exciting time as beltlines and greenspaces pop up all around the country, but especially in metro Atlanta, where we've been eagerly awaiting true car-alternative transit options and connections for over 20 years.
After being a bike commuter in college, and then later when living in Germany experiencing the safe, alternative trail options to traverse the cities, I dreamed of that being a reality in Atlanta. It's exciting to be part of the PCGI advocacy group working to make that happen, through education and outreach efforts, organized clean up efforts, and meetings with elected officials.
Because the PCG is a complicated project that will travel through five jurisdictions in Atlanta, Brookhaven, Chamblee, Doraville, and Unincorporated Dekalb County, it really is necessary for the PCGI to lead the charge.
While the Peachtree Creek Greenway actually began as an official idea in 1999 in Dekalb County, it wasn't until the PCGI launched in 2013 that tangible progress started happening.
As a Board Member, Creek Clean-upper, and volunteer, I'd love for you to support me and this effort by joining me in donating to an extremely worthy cause!
